Welcome to Day 2 of the Island batik Blog hop – Getaway (destination, travel themed).
The new collection I’ve been very fortunate to of been given by island Batik, as part of the Ambassador program was called ‘DITTY‘ – and I LOVE it!! what a stunning collection!!
I’m not going to lie, this quilt alone took me on a journey of its very own… With Christmas and New Year celebrations done and dusted, I knew i was one of the first on the blog hop list, so time wasn’t on my side… my thoughts immediately went to beach huts, but after much designing, i realized it was not going to work with no blue fabric in the collection… so i pulled out my laptop and loaded up EQ8…
Kaleidoscope Pattern… Ta Da!! ‘What?’ I hear you ask, ‘how does this fit the theme?’,
Well let me explain… when looking through the patterns, I came across the Kaleidoscope Pattern, my 8 year old son said to me, whats a Kaleidoscope? so i asked my eldest son, who immediately reached for his Iphone to google it! he then replied with, ‘it must be one of those 80’s kids toys’…
Can you still buy them?
Anyway, as i tried to explain how it worked, i realized that when you look into a Kaleidoscope it takes you on a special journey all of it own, creating patterns and stories of what the patterns look like, its definitely part of my childhood journey, and one i was able to share with my children… I’m not sure it will ever beat an Iphone or Xbox, but I loved my Kaleidoscope
I wanted to keep the inner layer quite neutral, with the addition a few colours, so i could leave the outer edge for the oranges and yellows. ‘y’ seams are not my friend, but i was determined not to be beaten
With the inner layer complete, I started to play around with the fabrics till I happy with the outer layer
I’m so happy with the way this turned out, I definitely want to make another version in the near future, if only to concur my fear of ‘y’ seams…
I will be writing a tutorial for this quilt, so be sure to follow me here on my blog, so I can keep you updated.
Also I just recieved the most amazing news, Im going to be a 2019 Island Batik Ambassador, so I will be sharing lots more beautiful batik makes.
You can also find me on Facebook and Instagram @creativeblonde66
I quilted it with stars and inside is Hobbs 100% wool batting – this was a dream to work with
Sewn together using Aurifil threads and strips of ‘Ditty’ fabric to bind
Thanks so much for stopping by, be sure to check out all the other amazing Island Batik Ambassadors show casing all the new collections

I love your quilt, you put the fabrics together perfectly, with the lighter colors for the inner star and the stronger colors on the outside. I would love to see the pattern, and I do follow your blog. ljbisme at msn dot com
