Food for thought…

Hi, thanks for stopping by…

Often we are torn between products, choosing which are best for the desired look we are trying to achieve, and those that are good for the environment.

Well with Vlieseline products you can have both …

So what is Sustainability?

“Sustainable development is a way for people to use resources without the resources running out. …  sustainability that “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

Vlieseline – responding to the need for change

vlieseline

Vlieseline are committed to reducing carbon footprint, offering products made from plastic bottles and other recycled polyester materials. There are many positive reasons for reducing consumption of new and precious raw materials and Vlieseline are able to do this without compromising on the superior quality they are renowned for.

Optimizing environmentally friendly manufacturing processes and transport conditions alongside minimizing use of new raw materials are high priorities and in this way Vlieseline are able to support customers wanting to make their own contribution to sustainability.

There are a growing number of Vlieseline products made from recycled material and the following are manufactured using 100% recycled polyester are:

F220

Lightweight, fusible, non woven interlining used for collars, cuffs, facings etc. on light to medium weight fabrics for dressmaking, home sewing, crafts and needlework. Machine washable to 60° and available in charcoal and white, 90cm wide.

H310

A medium weight, fusible non woven interlining suitable for home sewing, dressmaking, crafts when using medium fabric weights. Ideal for use on garment facings, pockets, ties, collars, cuffs. Machine washable to 40, available in white only, 90cm wide.

Why choose Vlieseline products made from sustainable materials?

  1. Synthetic waste materials are recycled and don’t end up in landfill or the sea, polluting the environment.
  2. The quality of recycled PES is just as good as that of newly produced polyester but needs considerably fewer resources for its production.

Other Vlieseline products made from recycled materials include;

Battings

80% = P120, P140, P250 and 55%= 249

Sew-in Interlinings

65% M12, S13

Fusible Interlinings

35% =G405 LE420

15% = H180

Mystery QAL, plus a chance to win some Vlieseline Wool Mix Batting…

This quarter I joined the #mystery_qal hosted by Tracy @itsatsweetsday.

The mystery is seeing what everyone will create using one chosen piece of fabric, which can be incorporated with other fabrics…

This quarters fabric was this adorable mouse fabric available @lewisandirenefabrics

_20190307_162421

I paired it up with this beautiful pink solid available @stoffabrics and the navy floral.

The mouse fabric was screaming out to be fussy cut. I had the perfect paper pieces – from Tilda, called the mini flower…

In the middle of creating my mystery item, I was asked by my husband’s Gran to make her a tissue pocket – have you ever heard of one? She doesn’t like to stick a tissue up her sleeve, cause it causes havoc if left in the wash… so this is it, a mini apron. She also uses it to hold her phone, so its with her at all times, which is perfect for anyone elderly.

I love this Jacquard fabric available from @Stoffabrics, I was keen to show off both sides, so i reversed the fabric on the straps and for the lining…

_20190318_092719

With only a few weeks left before the mystery quilt-along was due to end, I got busy making my mystery item… I wanted something soft and cosy for my laptop. So I made a laptop case, which has been quilted with Vlieseline Wool Mix batting – my laptop is now super comfy and cosy when I’m not using it 🙂

I love this wool mix batting, I used it in my latest quilts, it really is so soft and cosy, and lovely to quilt

This batting is so gorgeous

I want to give one lucky winner a lap size piece, perfect for your next quilting project.

Find out more about this product here…

Sofa Sewing Caddy…

Yeah we made it through Monday – happy dance.

Today I wanted to share with you a pattern I designed a couple of years ago, a tutorial I wrote especially for ‘Overdale Fabrics‘. Head over to there online store for all the products used in this tutorial.

The perfect accessory for anyone who loves to craft, whether it be, sewing, quilting, knitting or needlecraft, this is must have. Ideal if you like crafting whilst watching TV.

The great thing about this sewing caddy, is all the parts are removable, which makes it easy to interchange pockets, depending on the craft you are working on. Plus, it makes emptying the thread catcher, so much easier.

Gutermann thread colour 660
Half meter of H640 fusible wadding by Vilieseline

Its a Happy Monday…

Hey, thanks for popping by 🙂

I usually dread Mondays, and this Monday was going to be especially sad, as my boys were heading back to school after half term, and I always miss their company, but this Monday i had some exciting news…

My name was mentioned in the latest Gutermann meeting – they loved my wash bags using the Gutermann Marrakesch fabric collection – Grab issue 59 of Quilt Now magazine to make yours. And they’ve asked me to make some more home projects things for them – i’m thrilled and my heading is buzzing with ideas 🙂

Then came along some more exciting news… I won the beautiful Pincushion Competition that I entered on Instagram. These gorgeous pincushions are made by Rosie Marshall www.instagram.com/rosiescraftcorner, I chose a blue and white one 🙂

Last Friday, Quilt Now issue 60 hit the shops, I’m thrilled to have two of my quilts featured in this months issue.

My ‘spring fling’ quilt, uses the beautiful new collection from @vickyyorkedesigns for @camelot_fabrics called ‘Village Life’.

The other quilt is featuring the new Island Batik fabrics from the gorgeous new collection ‘All a Flutter’ by @kathybrettengle

(photos curtesy of Quilt Now Magazine)

I’ve just about kept up with the ‘Flower Bouquet’ sew-along, hosted by Pat @quilterpatsloan, here are blocks 6,7 and 8

Last week brought with it the start of ‘Daisy Chain’ mystery quilt along, with my fabrics chosen, it was time to begin cutting…

I’m so excited to see what this mystery quilt will look like, head over to Amanda’ Instagram page to find all the details www.instagram.com/honeybunnyanddoll

One big finish this week, was the my Cosy Burgundy Quilt, using a new collection from  Stoffabrics – ‘autumn leaves’.

_20190221_160038

***I quilted it using Vlieseline Cotton mix 80/20 and I’m IN LOVE!!***

Has anyone else used this? I would thoroughly recommend it – so cosy!

Lastly… its almost time for the final reveal of the #sweetestthingssampler, hosted by Dawn at Honeybee Cloths and Myself at CreativeBlonde.

Are you nearly finished?

I went with the QAYG method, and Sunday was spent quilting all my Irish chain blocks.  All the blocks in this quilt are available to download over on
