Feeling creative?

Yesterday, was the first day I’ve been home alone for 6 weeks, yes it was back to school time for all four of my boys, and boy did my house feel empty and soooo quiet…

So I set myself a little challenge to create different ways to use an embroidery hoop.

First up, was a reminder hoop, I thought it could be hung by the door, to hold little messages…

Here’s how I made it… Really simple, but quite effective, would make a beautiful gift too…

IMG_20190904_104835_221

Then I included a pocket, the fabric I used is a super soft Jersey fabric, so it had a little stretch in it, perfect for a nursery…

IMG_20190904_144933_021

Here’s how I made it… My son thought it was adorable, and wants it hanging in his room 😊

IMG_20190904_145649_218

These are all great scrap busting projects, but this last one, is perfect if you have a special piece of fabric, or a piece left over from something special you have made…

And there they were… And before I knew it the boys were home, complaining about being hungry and arguing with each other – back to normal, and just the way I like it 😊

Thanks for reading, hope this post has inspired you to get creative.

How do you fancy winning a 6 month subscription to ‘Make Modern’ – a Digital magazine?…

I’m so excited to tell you, that this month one of my quilts ‘COSY BLOOMS’ is being featured inside Issue 30 of Make Modern Magazine…

Here’s a little info about the magazine:

“Make Modern started in 2014 as a collaboration of three Aussie quilters who built a close friendship through the online quilting community – Jane, Kristy & Lara.

Our bi-monthly magazine is written by a small team of passionate modern quilters in Australia with a huge team of amazing quilters from all over the globe who contribute patterns and articles.

Make Modern is available exclusively from our online shop.

Our magazine is digital – you will get a PDF that you can read on your phone, tablet or computer and print if you wish.

Why digital? It’s more accessible, so whether you’re in a neighboring suburb in Australia, or across the globe in America or Europe, you’ll be able to read our magazine in the comfort of your own home. It’s more sustainable, think of all those happy trees! It takes up NO physical space which means more room for storing fabric. And it’s less expensive, leaving you with more dollars in your pocket to spend on….fabric?!

Our goal is to be a driving force in the modern quilt community.
We want you to feel like we’re already friends, the kind of friends who totally understand your fabric addiction, who will assist with your quilting problems and who will help you grow as a quilter.
We hope you’ll love us even though we’re all a little bit crazy.

How can you be part of the Make Modern community? Interact with us! Tell us what you want to see more of. Share pictures with us #makemodern! Introduce us to your favourite quilters and designers. Tell us about your amazing guild or quilty friends. Show us your craft rooms. Submit patterns or article ideas. We want to be a magazine for quilters”

A little sneak peek of my quilt…

I’ve used  fabrics from the Cosy Moods and Blooms collection for Gutermann, and a Tilda solid for the negative space blocks.

Today I wanted to share with you a pattern I designed a couple of years ago, a tutorial I wrote especially for ‘Overdale Fabrics‘. Head over to there online store for all the products used in this tutorial.

The perfect accessory for anyone who loves to craft, whether it be, sewing, quilting, knitting or needlecraft, this is must have. Ideal if you like crafting whilst watching TV.

The great thing about this sewing caddy, is all the parts are removable, which makes it easy to interchange pockets, depending on the craft you are working on. Plus, it makes emptying the thread catcher, so much easier.

Materials
Fat Quarter bundle of ‘Garden at Dusk’ by Overdale Fabrics
Half meter of ‘flower Stalks’ by Dashwood Studios available at Overdale Fabrics
Gutermann thread colour 660
Half meter of H640 fusible wadding by Vilieseline
4” square of Vilene light weight interlining
Few handfuls of ‘toy’ stuffing for the pin cushion

Haberdashery Items
Iron-away marker pen
10” and 7” circle template
4” circle template
Quilters ruler, rotary cutter/scissors
Iron
