‘My Happy Place’ Row-along…

Welcome to ‘my happy place’ row along, hosted by the extremely talented Marian at Seams to be Sew. Today is the day i get to show you mine… the challenge was to create a row 12″ x 30″ vertical or horizontal to show my happy place…

So… where would i be if i could, where do i feel happy…

Somewhere warm, surrounded by candles and a cheeky glass of wine, but still be able to listen to the kids playing downstairs, yep its that one day a year i get to soak in the bath, full to the brim with bubbles and scented candles all around me – Mothers Day!!

My four boys love to spoil me with bubble bath, bath bombs and candles on mothers day.

These beautiful fabrics were very generously given to us by Northcott fabrics ‘cottons that feel like silk’, head over (after reading my blog of cause) to see all their amazing fabrics, i promise you, you’ll be blown away

I wanted to set the scene to be winter – Christmas time to be precise (my other happy place to be), with snow falling outside the window, and this super soft fabric from ‘enchanted forest collection‘ from Northcott was perfect

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas, with a cheeky bottle of fizz, and i love the fabrics from Artisan Spirit Shimmer 2017 – Peacock By Deborah Edwards  which were perfect for creating my bottle of fizz

I used Island batik fabrics from my stash, to add colour to my row, and a very useful pack of 10 coloured threads from Gutermann

And one of my favourite Gutermann threads – metallic silver, for creating bubbles

My candles are scented ‘gingerbread, fir tree, cranberry and cinnamon – can you smell them?

Great Outdoors Blog Hop

And the best part… YOU have the chance to win a bundle of this beautiful collection.

This collection is filled with flowers, dragonflies, bees and doves – everything i love to watch in my garden, and so that’s my inspiration came from to create this…. Ta Da

The beautiful pinks, purples, teals, blues and green are simple gorgeous

My quilt began like this…

I fussy cut all the beautiful flowers, doves and dragonflies, and added them to my garden trellis, and after stitches the trellis, with the help of Vlieseline H250 Stabilizer fused to the reverse, I used FMQ to add the leaves

There was something quite pretty about the two doves sitting on the top, so i sewed them in place.

There are so many beautiful fabrics in this collection, i wanted to use some as a boarder. I couldn’t resist using the beautiful dragonflies in blue/purple for the backing, and the opposite colour combo for the binding

And my quilt was complete, i used a lovely lush wadding 295 from Vlieseline, as i have plans to leave this comfy quilt laying on my bed for my cats to sleep on, but something tells me my dog has plans of his own 😉

Fabrics i used from the collection (just because i love their names):

Honeycomb – Cotton Candy

Floral Dot – Blush, Mixed Berry, and Raspberry

Dragonfly – Sea Mist, and Blueberry

Mixed Birds – Primrose

Where Flowers Bloom…

I was thrilled to be involved in this blog hop, as i love flowers, I’ve been spending a lot of time recently in my garden, and my efforts are beginning to pay off…

I had some beautiful floral fabrics from Craftcotton, with the most perfect threads from Gutermann…

So i just needed to design my quilt, i knew i wanted a wall hanging, and i love a blanket stitch, so i set to work designing my block…

I really enjoyed using these beautiful threads, with the floral fabrics, here is my ‘where the flowers bloom’ wall hanging…

Thanks for reading, head over to my Instagram page to WIN Gutermann threads and fabrics, and follow me here on my blog for more info

Wish Upon A Star Blog Hop…

Welcome to day two of this amazing eye candy blog hop, hosted by Carol @justletmequilt

So the challenge was to make something with a star on it, what could be prettier a quilt with stars

I had recently purchased the EQ8 software, and after playing around with it for a while, my first design incorporated a STAR… and so my ‘wish upon a star’ quilt was born 😉 I will be honest, i did ask google, how many points a star had, just to make sure, turns out, anything from 4 to infinity qualifies

craftcotton pond

I chose some beautiful fabrics from Craftcotton, a new collection called ‘By The Pond’

The swans were just so pretty, i had to make a feature of them

The top quilt was complete, and with just a few days to complete, i was keen to get it quilting and bound

I chose a bold Teal binding, to pull out the teal in the quilt. All sewn together using Gutermann threads

Thanks for reading, be sure to hop on over to see all the other stars!

2018 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop…

This year I signed up for this new and exciting challenge – 2018 new quilt bloggers, in the hope it will help me improve my blogging skills,

And it starts today – 16th April – Introductory Post about myself and I’m one of the 8 bloggers to post during this first week…

Do I know what I’m doing? not so much!… so please bare with me

I do know I’m with 8 other bloggers in a hive called ‘Quilt, Blog, Repeat’ Here is our button

Here are the members of our hive:

Jen – dizzyquilter.com
Michelle (that’s me!) –  creativeblonde.co.uk
Roseanne – homesewnbyus.com
Jan – cocoaquilts.com
Tara – quiltdistrict.com
Nicole – handwroughtquilts.wordpress.com
Karen – thequiltrambler.com/blog/
Becca – prettypiney.com
Sarah – 9658textiles.blogspot.ca

So lets get to the introductory bit…

My name is Michelle AKA creative blonde, my name came from a my dads love of The Beatles. oh wait, you guys meant my blogger name, well… this was chosen by my husband, who decided this was ‘awesome and catchy’ after a lengthy chat with each other about how i though i was never really ‘clever’, i just loved creating things and i have also been know to have many ‘blonde’ moments… So along came creative blonde (my husband designed and created my logo too)

creativeblonde logo (2)

I added a few of my favorite quilts/makes below, i love to work with blues, and my favourite stitch, is machine blanket stitch

I thoroughly enjoy taking photos, not just of the finished item, but the fabrics, and the process along the way. My Instagram page reflects this …

I got into quilting a few years ago, as my children (4 boys) started needing me less  – sob… I took a City & Guild Diploma in Quilting & Patchwork, I’ve always been a ‘stay at home’ mum, and wouldn’t have it any other way, i’m so very proud of my boys, even though everyday brings new challenges, and stresses, so this worked out perfectly. I can still be around for my boys, but focus on something to keep me sane. I guess quilting, sewing, embroidery, cross stitch and crocheting is my stress relief. I get a real buzz when i finish a project, and i’m always so excited to share my new pattern/ design here on my blog. I love to show photos on Instagram and Facebook of new fabrics, projects and challenges i’m involved in too

My best bit so far, is meeting all the lovely people on social media, everyday someone makes me smile or laugh, by a comment or photo

My Quilting Tip:

Accurate cutting is key…

And whenever you think ‘oh that will do, or as my husband says when doing DIY  – ‘get away with that’, always go back, unpick and re-do, because it will take a few minutes and look so much better, or you will be forever seeing the mistake in the finished item, and wish ‘why didn’t i go back and re-do that bit’

Whats your best Quilting Tip? i would love to hear from you…

Huge thanks for reading my post today, please hop around all the lovely bloggers in this blog hop, up this week with myself are and who knows you might pick up a tip or two

Small, Smaller, Smallest Blog Hop!

Today is the day, to finally be able to share with you my first ever blog hop piece, i ordered these beautiful fabrics a while ago from Sew Hot and this was the perfect project to use them for…

These fat quarters were taken from the Peppered Cottons range .  “These are yarn-dyed shot cottons, meaning the weft and warp are two different colors, giving each color a unique look. These shot cottons are a heavier weight that others on the market and thus have earned their standing as a ‘favorite’.”

Really lovely to work with, I laid out my pattern and chose my favouite stitch  – blanket stitch.

Each square got small, smaller, to the smallest, as they spread to the outer edge, and also  the over lap decreased on each square too.

The wording i wanted to use from the gorgeous fabric ‘sew it!, quilt it! love it! in purple by Amy Hamberlin of Kati Cupcake Pattern Co was slightly smaller then i needed to start off the big square, so i mounted this.

cute hey!…

I blanket stitched this mini quilt using the gorgeous thread from Gutermann, colour number 662.

For the backing i used a small piece of grey blender, and some floral fabric from craftcotton , that i had left over in my scraps, and after quilting the middle square, i bound the quilt with some baby pink binding.

I’m so pleased with how this turned out…

Cant wait to go blog hop and see everyone else’s creations, below is a list of all the bloggers taking part and the dates they are releasing their makes. But just before you begin scrolling, thanks for reading, and be sure to follow me here on my blog, by clicking on the ‘about’ page and over on my Instagram page
