Mystery QAL, plus a chance to win some Vlieseline Wool Mix Batting…

This quarter I joined the #mystery_qal hosted by Tracy @itsatsweetsday.

The mystery is seeing what everyone will create using one chosen piece of fabric, which can be incorporated with other fabrics…

This quarters fabric was this adorable mouse fabric available @lewisandirenefabrics

I paired it up with this beautiful pink solid available @stoffabrics and the navy floral.

The mouse fabric was screaming out to be fussy cut. I had the perfect paper pieces – from Tilda, called the mini flower…

In the middle of creating my mystery item, I was asked by my husband’s Gran to make her a tissue pocket – have you ever heard of one? She doesn’t like to stick a tissue up her sleeve, cause it causes havoc if left in the wash… so this is it, a mini apron. She also uses it to hold her phone, so its with her at all times, which is perfect for anyone elderly.

I love this Jacquard fabric available from @Stoffabrics, I was keen to show off both sides, so i reversed the fabric on the straps and for the lining…

With only a few weeks left before the mystery quilt-along was due to end, I got busy making my mystery item… I wanted something soft and cosy for my laptop. So I made a laptop case, which has been quilted with Vlieseline Wool Mix batting – my laptop is now super comfy and cosy when I’m not using it 🙂

I love this wool mix batting, I used it in my latest quilts, it really is so soft and cosy, and lovely to quilt

This batting is so gorgeous

I want to give one lucky winner a lap size piece, perfect for your next quilting project.

  2. Oh my goodness! That mouse material is adorable, especially the way you fussy cut it!!!
I’m making a baby blanket for my cousin. It’s a boy and I’m using this cute nautical themed material and doing a Storm At Sea pattern. I’ll be able to knock that one off my list of patterns to do!!!

  5. A lovely bag for your gran, and super fabrics for the laptop. In 1962 I was married, my Mum and sewed my wedding gown. Yes, we used Vilene under the satin, and after all these years, I have some small pieces left .It was used in so many projects. And the Chantilly lace from my gown was mended, tea-bag dyed to be a pale ecru, and our younger daughter had this as the skirt for her wedding dress in March 2018. I would love to try another of their products. this looks wonderful and so soft .Right now, I have made a flimsy for the Quilts for Christchurch, put together 75 of the 4 patch blocks, to alternate with the many heart blocks coming from all over the world.

  6. I love the idea of a little pocket for phone, tissues, etc. I know the agony of kleenex in the wash! Right now, I’m working on two wall hangings for my art quilt group. In fact, I’d better get cracking! Thanks for the info on the wool mix batting.

  7. Both projects using the adorable mouse were wonderful. I know gran will love her new tissue pocket. While I have never heard of one I do remember my grandma’s shoving their tissues up their sleeves 🙂 Currently, I am working on the Capital T quilt, a cross stitch picture by Barbara Lavalle and a crochet baby blanket. – Sharon

  10. You used the sweet mystery fabric in such a great way! The center of the flower is perfect with a mouse face peeking out! I’d love to try out the wool mix batting! I am currently working on a test pattern by another blogger. I’m making it into a table topper and it’s almost ready for quilting.

  11. Very pretty fabrics. Grandma’s tissue pocket and the lap top cover are both really creative and pretty also. Currently, I am working on a charity quilt and a Color of the Year quilt.
